American Population Comments on the Border Situation and COVID-19
Is the massive outbreak of COVID-19 related to border apprehensions?
It is no secret that several opposition groups are trying to intervene in Biden’s immigration plans at all costs, especially when it comes to lifting certain border restrictions or putting an end to the construction of the border wall separating the US from Mexico.
Currently, the Biden administration faces a crossroads as, on the one hand, it must effectively address the surge of illegal border crossings, which exceeds the numbers of recent decades, and, on the other hand, it must also pay attention to a massive outbreak of Coronavirus that is spreading rapidly across the Ut.
The current problem lies in the fact that opposition groups and certain Republican leaders are conflating these two situations, claiming that undocumented immigrants in the border territory are spreading COVID-19 in the US.
It is worth clarifying that this premise was recently contradicted by several health professionals, who state that immigrants are not responsible for the massive outbreak of Coronavirus, but that the situation is primarily related to the Delta variant (which is more contagious) and low national vaccination rates.
However, although this conjecture has been dismantled by experts, doubt still remains among the American population.

How Americans feel about undocumented immigrants and COVID-19
A poll conducted by Echelon Insights between August 13 and 18, which included 1,016 registered voters, reveals the American population’s opinion regarding undocumented immigrants apprehended at the borders and the massive outbreak of COVID-19, more specifically about what the government should do with immigrants who test positive for Coronavirus.
72% of respondents think that “those apprehended at the southern border who test positive for COVID-19” should be immediately returned, that is, deported, and only 17% oppose this idea. This result shows that the opinions of certain opposition groups regarding immigrants are instilling fear among the American population, despite the fact that they do not always come from reliable sources or are supported by studies and research.
Apart from that, it is important to mention that the poll also reveals that 52% of respondents do not support Biden’s approach to immigration, while 42% approve of his approach to this sector. On top of that, 11% of respondents think immigration is the biggest problem facing the country today, which means it ranks #3 on this question.
