CBP Outlines Guidelines for Reopening Land Borders
CBP outlines parameters for reopening the borders in November
On Tuesday, November 2, CBP (Customs and Border Protection) released new guidelines for the reopening of land borders to non-essential travel next Monday, November 8.
It is important to explain that the US borders have been closed to non-essential travel since the advent of the global Coronavirus pandemic, which has tremendously slowed inter-regional traffic, especially between Canada, the US and Mexico.
Therefore, the fact that the federal government decided to reopen the borders is a great step forward for informal trade and for the world to gradually return to normality.
Let’s take a look at some of the most important guidelines:
- Non-citizen travelers must present proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Failure to present this documentation will result in CBP officers denying entry into the US. (The vaccine must be on the FDA -Food and Drug Administration- approved list).
- American citizens will not have to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
- People under 18 years of age will not have to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
In addition, if necessary, CBP officers will have the tools to translate vaccination documents from other countries.
