Census results highlight the need to expand immigration

The Census results have made national news for the past week. This is because the US’ birth rate and population growth has declined considerably over the last decade. Could Republican members of Congress support comprehensive immigration overhaul?

The Census results indicate that the best way to balance the working-age population and the retirement-age population over the next several decades is to increase immigration levels through legal programs. This strategy would allow the local government to attract talent from abroad to boost the economy and, at the same time, increase the birth rate over the next decade, welcoming a new generation of multicultural workers.

In fact, the Census results could not have been released at a better time because there are currently several immigration bills under Congressional review, which, if approved, would lead to comprehensive immigration reform.
