DOS asks the American public for input on immigration

On Thursday, September 16, Biden’s DOS (Department of State) published a Request for Public Input in the Federal Register, asking the American public to give their views on immigration in general, especially when it comes to existing barriers to having a humane and fair immigration system.

Biden’s DOS asks the public to submit written comments by October 18, which should specify, among other things:

• Possible obstacles for foreign nationals to access a fair immigration system.
• Barriers that lengthen waiting times or hinder existing immigration processes for all kinds of foreign populations.
• Suggestions or recommendations for improving the immigration system in general and optimizing existing processes.

Why is the DOS asking for public input?

This request by the DOS is in response to an Executive Order issued by President Biden during his first week in office, which directs key federal agencies to analyze actions taken by the previous administration on immigration and take appropriate steps to restore faith in the local immigration system.
