Dreamers Show the Need for a Path to Citizenship
Legalization for Dreamers is still pending
It is no secret that immigration has always been part of the US’ history. However, there are immigrant communities that are more popular than others, such as the so-called Dreamers.
The term Dreamers refers to immigrants who came, or rather were brought, to the US without legal documentation when they were minors, in many cases infants or toddlers.
Now, after a couple of decades, these immigrants are young adults who have grown up in the midst of American culture and have also become essential workers in all sorts of sectors.
Naturally, there is a gigantic socio-political debate surrounding Dreamers, mainly because it was not entirely their decision to enter the US without prior authorization and, therefore, technically they should have the possibility to request legal documentation, also considering that they have lived in the country for as long as they can remember.
However, it is also understandable that there is a part of the population and certain political leaders who do not support legalization for Dreamers since they are, essentially, undocumented immigrants.
As multiple immigration processes have changed over the past year, the best recommendation and decision when starting your immigration journey in the US or completing a pending process is undoubtedly to seek reliable help from experts, who have the necessary and appropriate tools to lead you towards the success of your immigration application. Dreamers comment on the need for a path to legalization
Congress is currently reviewing Biden’s 2022 budget package, which has already passed the US House of Representatives. This proposal includes an immigration section that could open a path to citizenship for Dreamers and other essential foreign workers, who are also undocumented.
The debate around the path to legalization for Dreamers is currently quite large, but the opinion of these young immigrants and what they think about the situation in general is rarely taken into account.
For instance, a Dreamer who has resided in the US for over two decades, who also owns a fairly successful business, states that it is exhausting and distressing to be in limbo for so long and constantly fear deportation, especially because he remembers almost nothing from his country of origin.
He, along with other young immigrants, state, “We are vital to the economy and embedded in our communities. The majority of Americans agree we deserve long-term security. Congress should not waste this chance.”
Dreamers are openly calling on Congress to pass Biden’s budget proposal so they can finally have a chance to come out of the shadows and get approval to be a legitimate part of the American socio-cultural fabric, even though they have been for a long time already.
