Dreamers Would Also Benefit from Biden’s Spending Bill
Dreamers await verdict on Biden’s spending bill
Dreamers may also have the opportunity to reside in the US legally thanks to the immigration provisions included in Biden’s budget bill, which is currently facing Senate scrutiny.
It is important to explain that the term Dreamers refers to young immigrants who came, or rather were brought, to the US without legal documentation when they were minors. The vast majority of Dreamers have lived in North America for as long as they can remember and there is nowhere else they can call home.
Your future in the US depends heavily on the response you receive to your immigration application. Therefore, it is imperative to follow the advice of experts. Contact Motion Law Immigration, schedule a FREE Consultation, and follow the advice of our experienced attorneys!
What does Biden’s spending bill propose?
Biden’s budget package currently includes an immigration provision that seeks to offer amnesty for up to 10 years to eligible undocumented immigrants through the parole power.
If approved by the Senate, this would be the largest documentation program in the history of the US, and would benefit approximately 7 million undocumented immigrants, who are essential workers in all kinds of sectors.
It is worth mentioning that expanding the parole power was not the Democratic leaders’ initial proposal. In fact, the ideal has always been to open a path to citizenship for immigrants residing in the US undocumented.
However, after the Senate Parliamentarian twice rejected the immigration language included in the spending package, Democratic leaders have changed the provisions.

Why might Dreamers benefit from the budget package?
Currently, the only alternative available specifically to Dreamers is the deportation relief program called DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals).
This immigration benefit (implemented by Obama in 2012) protects approximately 700,000 Dreamers for two years with the possibility of extension.
However, amid a near-never-ending legal battle, a Texas federal judge ruled against DACA in mid-July 2021 and ordered the immediate suspension of new applications, leaving hundreds of thousands of eligible Dreamers in limbo.
Thus, immigration provisions in Biden’s budget package would open a door of hope not only for eligible DACA recipients, but also for Dreamers who have never had legal documentation in the US and who have lived in the shadows.
