Hopeful News for Foreigners Who Want to Come to the US
Some consulate and embassy services are reopening
Visa services offered by US consulates and embassies around the world have been suspended for almost four consecutive months (since March 20, 2020) due to restrictions implemented by President Trump during the massive outbreak of Coronavirus.
Therefore, what these entities have done during the health emergency is to cancel the appointments that were already scheduled and freeze the applications that had already been submitted.
The Department of State (DOS) declared on July 13 that some embassies and consulates from more than a dozen countries will resume regular visa services and allow applicants to submit new requests to be able to go to the US.
Keep up to date with the latest immigration news.
How will this process work?
According to the official DOS statement, the reopening of consulates and embassies around the world will work as follows:
- Only applications for available visas will be received, meaning that they must meet the requirements of the last presidential proclamation.
For example, some work visas are not available to the public until 2021. - Consulates and embassies will resume visa services at their own pace depending on local conditions regarding the global pandemic.
- Appointments canceled due to the massive Coronavirus outbreak will be automatically rescheduled and applicants will receive notification electronically (text messages or emails) or by mail.
- All consulates and embassies around the world continue to issue visas for specific emergency situations, which has been routine during the global Coronavirus pandemic.
