House Bill Would Stimulate International Competitiveness
House bill would protect the national economy
There is currently a bill from the US House of Representatives on the table, which could expedite the process of legal permanent residency for highly skilled foreign workers and thereby stimulate and protect the economy.
The House bill proposes to, among other things:
- Reduce waiting times for employment-based Green Card applications.
- Allow eligible foreign workers to pay a fee to expedite their legal permanent residency process. This fee may also be paid by the local employer.
- Issue employment-based and family-based Green Cards not used in the last three decades.
If this proposal is implemented:
- More than 220,000 employment-based Green Cards would be available to highly qualified foreign workers.
- Eligible foreign workers would be able to bypass the years-long waiting list, which can often take decades.
- International students enrolled in the OPT (Optional Practical Training) program could also gain access to legal permanent residency through this bill, which would allow local employers to retain international talent.

This bill also addresses legal immigration processes
It is no secret that irregular migration and the possibility of granting amnesty to undocumented immigrants in the US has been a topic of national controversy in recent months, especially as the Biden administration is pushing for comprehensive immigration reform in Congress.
However, what is striking about the House bill is that it includes a fairly broad strategy to address existing problems in legal immigration processes, especially when it comes to business immigration programs and their impact on the economy.
