ICE Conducts Operations to Arrest Dozens of Undocumented Immigrants

ICE detains more than 60 immigrants in Colorado and Wyoming and 125 in Texas

The exponential growth of border forces

It is no secret that the current administration of the US has always had the purpose of reducing illegal immigration at all costs.

In fact, one of the pillars of the Trump administration to win the 2016 elections was the construction of the border wall that separates Mexico from the US and that, in the president’s opinion, reduces massive illegal immigration from Central America.

In addition to that, border forces belonging to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have had an exponential growth in recent years.

That is the case of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE). Actually, in one of the official websites that promote the presidential campaign of Donald Trump for the upcoming elections, there is a section showing the current government changes in the US immigration sector.

This “Promises Made, Promises Kept” section declares that the Trump administration has hired more than 10,000 ICE employees to continue with the task of reducing illegal immigration and “teach a lesson” to foreigners who decided to cross the borders without prior authorization and currently reside in the country.

It is important to clarify that ICE is not only in charge of protecting the borders and monitoring merchandise entering the US, but also has the goal of conducting thorough investigations to find undocumented immigrants who managed to cross borders without a legal immigration process.

Other than that, this federal entity must also oversee immigration detention centers around the country.

Undocumented immigrant arrests on the rise

Due to the exponential growth of ICE, arrests of undocumented immigrants currently living in the US have also increased substantially.

The Trump administration states that people crossing the borders unlawfully should not, under any circumstances, have the opportunity to apply for a work permit or legal residence. The president argues that granting these types of options would incite other immigrants to do the same and that the best solution is to give a lesson through deportation processes and deprivation of local benefits.

ICE arrests dozens of immigrants during an operation

ICE has carried out multiple operations in recent months with the purpose of detaining undocumented immigrants and starting deportation proceedings as soon as possible.

On the one hand, an operation was carried out in Colorado and Wyoming, where ICE detained more than 60 undocumented immigrants who participated in crimes such as sexual assaults, extortion, drug trafficking, domestic violence, inter alia.

ICE’s investigation lasted several months before it was able to locate the undocumented foreigners involved in the operation.

On the other hand, ICE reported the detention of 125 undocumented immigrants in Central and South Texas and the scenario was similar because the detainees have a history of participation in different crimes. This operation took place between July 13 and August 20, 2020.
