Immigrant Rights Advocates Ask Biden to Prioritize Immigration
The aftermath of Trump’s immigration policies
The US immigration system has been substantially transformed over the past four years under the administration of President Donald Trump, who, along with his cabinet, has always wanted to reduce immigration, both legal and illegal, arguing that it is detrimental to American workers and a burden on the local economy.
The Trump administration has considerably restricted and reduced, through more than 400 changes in immigration policies, the alternatives for foreigners to legally come to the US. In addition to that, he has also tried to curb illegal immigration by building a border wall and hiring more than 10,000 agents for border forces such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Naturally, because of Trump’s strict policies, measures, and strategies, immigrant communities in the US, along with activists and immigrant rights advocates, have tried to challenge the current government through legal complaints or lawsuits, which has led to multiple confrontations in court.

The American population chose the Democratic nominee
The local population elected the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, during the elections of November 3, as the 46th president of the US, who will take office on January 20, 2021.
The Biden-Harris administration has quite a different view than Trump when it comes to the immigration sector. The president-elect constantly refers to immigration with a positive connotation, stating that it is a benefit and a strength for the economy, social development, innovation and business growth.
Therefore, as the Biden administration plans to expand benefits for foreigners and remove many of Trump’s policies, dozens of humanitarian organizations and activist groups are developing action plans and follow up strategies to improve the local immigration system and make sure that the president-elect keeps his promises regarding immigration.

Michigan activist groups urge Biden administration to restructure immigration policies
In Michigan, several activist organizations, asylum seekers, American citizens and immigrant rights advocates are calling on the Biden-Harris administration to prioritize immigration from day one in office.
They state that Trump’s policies have tremendously harmed the most vulnerable immigrant communities, instilling fear and anguish. Adding to that, his anti-immigration ideals increased discrimination and social division between local citizens and foreigners.
They primarily focus on the political asylum process and other humanitarian programs that have been affected by the Trump administration and its effort to reduce immigration.
Therefore, they urge the Biden government to revoke these restrictive policies and replace them with a more welcoming immigration system that encourages and promotes multicultural inclusion and respect.
