Immigration Attorneys Accuse Trump for COVID-19 Repercussions
Immigration attorneys request release for detained families
Trump’s administration received a second lawsuit this week.
The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) sued the current administration for two reasons:
- To request the release of detained immigrants, who are in overcrowded and poorly hygienic centers.
The reason for this request is that detained immigrants are waiting for a hearing that may be delayed and are in danger of massive COVID-19 contagion. - To demand the suspension of immigration hearings throughout the country.
The reason for this request is to prevent contagion between federal employees and detained immigrants.
The lawsuit was initially filed because the government had suspended face-to-face appointments in most courts, but this week several courts have reopened despite the imminent risk of COVID-19.
Thus, they say this decision endangers the entire detained immigrant community, as well as federal employees.
It is essential to avoid such situations at all costs in the midst of a pandemic.
President Trump receives multiple accusations simultaneously
The head of the Senate’s Republican bench
Mitch McConnell, the head of the Republican bench, says that the current government did not react correctly to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
McConnell states that Trump’s administration was focused on the impeachment against the president instead of focusing in public health (as it was necessary).
Unfortunately, both things happened at the same time: COVID-19, which is an irreversible threat for our society, and the impeachment presented by Democratic legislators.
Therefore, McConnell openly expressed that the criticism Trump has received lately for acting slowly regarding the Coronavirus is real because he was absorbed in winning the impeachment and being released from any responsibility.
He also mentions that immigrants face abysmal danger if the government does not act immediately.
The Mexican actor
Demián Bichir, the renowned Mexican actor, has questioned the veracity of the current government and its concern for the immigrant community.
The actor openly says that immigration detention centers are deadly traps for innocent people and families residing there.
One of his social media posts read: “What I have in mind now is the danger of the spread of the pandemic facing the group of people who are locked up near our borders for doing nothing more than trying the best dream of their life. Trump’s government keeps a huge group of immigrants in detention centers, putting them in serious danger of catching COVID-19 and possibly being trapped. It is time to eradicate bigger and more deadly viruses like indifference, inequality, ignorance, fear and hatred.”
ICE employees
Although federal employees must follow government orders, they have also reached the president asking for help in order to protect their families from the virus.
Judges around the country have also called for justice to prevent the massive spread of COVID-19 in immigration detention centers.
There has been no response to these complaints
Trump’s administration has not mentioned anything regarding the allegations made in recent days.
There has also been no response for employees who have loyally obeyed their orders for years.
It is urgent to take hygiene measures in detention centers. In fact, one of the requests they make publicly is to give the detainees freedom (at least temporarily) so they can avoid direct contagion in these centers.
The best way to protect ourselves and our families is to find the right guide for immigration processes.
