Biden’s proposed approach to immigration
Since Biden took office, his team has made changes that seek to improve living conditions for immigrants who do not yet have legal documentation.
One of his proposals modifies the approach to detentions and deportations carried out by ICE agents.
In fact, the Biden administration issued a memorandum prioritizing detention for those who pose a threat to national security or public safety.

Judge blocks memorandum
Judge Michael Newman decided to retract some of the provisions of the memorandum, stating that the decision regarding ICE’s approach is a matter for Congress and cannot be changed through executive action.
It is important to mention that this is not the first time that this memorandum has been stopped, as other judges in the states of Montana, Texas and Arizona had already taken legal action to roll back Biden’s provision.
This time, however, the lawsuit has been completed, so Newman’s decision affects the regulations under which ICE operates.

However, the other conditions proposed in the memorandum remain intact, so there will be no raids on work places and immigration courts.
