Kamala Harris to Travel to the Borders for the First Time
Vice President must effectively address the situation at the borders
Even before President Joe Biden took office in late January 2021, dozens of experts and critics warned that the new administration would face a substantial increase in irregular immigration levels for multiple reasons.
To give a couple of examples, on the one hand, the health crisis caused by the global Coronavirus pandemic paused international transit almost completely since the beginning of 2020 and naturally, there was a wave of immigration after some restrictions were lifted, even more in a country like the US, which attracts thousands of foreigners annually. On the other hand, former President Donald Trump tried to restrict immigration in general between 2017 and 2021 and, therefore, it was to be expected that there would be a wave of immigration after he left office.
In effect, expert predictions came true. Since February 2021, the Biden administration has had to face a surge of illegal border crossings, which is delaying and jeopardizing its immigration projects and plans. The current president has the firm intention of improving the local immigration system to attract talent from abroad, but is currently dealing with a rather difficult situation related to irregular immigration.
Therefore, to address the border situation effectively, President Biden directed Vice President Kamala Harris to use all the resources and tools at her disposal to address the root causes of irregular immigration directly in the Central American territory.

Harris visits the Central American territory, but receives criticism due to the border situation
Since President Biden ordered her to supervise and improve the border situation, Vice President Harris has already had several meetings with Central American leaders and even recently traveled to Mexico and Guatemala. During her trip to Central America, Harris sent a message to people who plan to come to the US without legal documentation and stated that irregular immigration will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
However, Vice President Harris received multiple criticisms, mainly from border leaders, because she has not yet witnessed what is really happening in border territory.
Vice President Harris will visit the borders for the first time
Along with the Secretary of DHS (Department of Homeland Security), Alejandro Mayorkas, Vice President Harris will travel to the borders for the first time on Friday, June 25, 2021. Harris will visit El Paso, Texas, where she can witness the current situation in order to implement the right measures to reduce irregular immigration from Central America.
It is worth mentioning that Harris’s plan is essentially to create interregional cooperation strategies to avoid the implementation of restrictive border policies and, instead, to improve conditions in the Central American territory to offer more opportunities to local citizens and be able to reduce irregular immigration.
