Leaders in Business and Education Support the Path to Citizenship
Immigration reform to protect foreign workers
President Joe Biden and his team came to the White House at the beginning of the year with the firm intention of restructuring the local immigration system from its roots through comprehensive reform, which would include support from Congress in order to implement lasting policies and changes.
As such, comprehensive immigration reform has been a topic of conversation among the American population and political leaders during 2021. In fact, one of the reasons why immigration reform is a controversial issue is because it would involve legislation to open a path to legal permanent residence and American citizenship for hundreds of thousands of immigrants currently residing in the US undocumented.
The Biden administration is tirelessly and intensely promoting this proposal, primarily because the vast majority of undocumented foreigners are essential workers and are a mainstay of the national economy, even more so now that the country is going through the devastating financial crisis brought on by the global Coronavirus pandemic.

Leaders in business and education support immigration reform
On Monday, August 30, through a virtual press conference, several Maine business and education leaders supported a path to citizenship for undocumented foreign workers, which includes farmworkers, health care professionals, workers for the US food supply chain, inter alia.
These leaders also state that the education sector relies heavily on the presence of foreigners, whose investment is quite substantial and helps maintain the economic stability of local colleges and universities.
Adding to that, they expect Congress to pass Biden’s FY 2022 budget package, which includes an immigration resolution. This legislation would protect young immigrants known as Dreamers, as well as undocumented farmworkers and other essential workers.
