Major Organization Calls for Protection for Dreamers
Dreamers no longer have guarantees
The US has always been the destination of thousands of foreigners every year, who, on many occasions, flee risky situations while trying to build a promising future. However, the lack of information and reliable sources, as well as desperation, have led many people to migrate irregularly to the US, that is, to cross borders without legal documentation. In many cases there are also entire families entering the country without prior authorization.
Over the past few decades, young immigrants who were brought to the US without documentation as minors have become one of the most influential and important immigrant communities in the country. This is because, throughout history, they have become essential workers in all kinds of sectors of the local market.
Nevertheless, despite being a pillar of the American socioeconomic fabric, these young immigrants known as Dreamers do not have many alternatives to apply for legal documentation. This is due to the simple fact that, although they came to the country as children, they are still undocumented immigrants.
In fact, currently, DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) is the only direct option for them. However, a federal judge recently ruled against this deportation relief program, leaving thousands of Dreamers with no guarantee for their future.

Major organization calls on tech companies to support dreamers
In the wake of the DACA ruling, an organization focused on supporting and helping startup companies, called Engine, is calling on tech businesses and organizations to come together and create an action plan to protect DACA, especially because Dreamers are truly important workers to national economic stability.
In the petition, Engine states that, “We form the fabric of the innovation ecosystem across the country, some of us immigrants ourselves, and we urge U.S. policymakers to swiftly enact a permanent solution for Dreamers (…) Without Dreamers—many of whom represent STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) talent on which startups rely or are founders themselves—the U.S. risks the dynamism and diversity central to our position as a leader in innovation.”
Adding to that, this organization also explains that this petition has solid grounds and arguments, such as the fact that the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) would lose $460 billion over the next decade if the government does not act to protect Dreamers, who help local companies build their roots and drive economic growth.
Engine also comments on the importance of attracting talent from abroad, in addition to protecting Dreamers already residing in this American nation, especially considering that many countries are already increasing their efforts to attract qualified foreign workers and the US should not stay behind.
