Mexico and the US propose cooperation network to address irregular migration

In an attempt to improve the current border situation, on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, important officials from Mexico and the US held a meeting to discuss interregional cooperation methods to curb irregular migration from Central America.

It is worth mentioning that Mexico also faces a gigantic challenge because most migrants must pass through this territory to reach the US borders. Therefore, creating strategies to address irregular migration in an efficient manner is also in the interest of the Mexican government.

In fact, Mexico’s foreign minister commented on the meeting and stated, “The delegations agreed to expand cooperation in order to manage orderly, safe and regular migration flows with respect for the human rights of migrants and asylum seekers.”

The new strategy’s main goal is to be able to potentiate and optimize Central American resources to improve living conditions and increase job opportunities for citizens in this region, which will allow the US to reduce irregular migration levels and the Biden administration to continue with its plans.
