Mexico and the US plan to discuss about irregular migration

Due to the current controversy and because its immigration projects are at risk, the Biden administration is trying to control the situation at the borders and reduce the number of apprehensions at all costs.

Initially, President Biden ordered Vice President Kamala Harris to handle the situation and implement the necessary measures to find the root causes of mass irregular migration, which are inherently related to precarious conditions in Central America.

Since then, Harris has focused mainly on creating international cooperation agreements and strategies so that neighboring countries, especially Mexico, also join forces and help reduce mass migration to North America, not only by enforcing immigration law at their borders, but also by redistributing local resources to improve the quality of life of Central American citizens and be able to reduce immigration levels.

As part of this action plan, on Friday, May 7, Vice President Harris and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (also known as AMLO) will have a meeting to discuss how to intercept migrant caravans and reduce massive irregular migration without violating international human rights.

It is important to mention that Mexico has already implemented measures to increase surveillance at its southern borders and has intercepted several immigrant groups, who plan to request international protection in the US, but cross the borders without documentation, which can be extremely risky.
