Mexico Proposes New Strategies to Reduce Migration
Mexico in the midst of immigration controversy
Biden’s immigration plans and proposals have been delayed and affected by the surge of illegal border crossings that has taken place since the end of 2020, but mainly since the beginning of 2021, when there was a change of administrations.
In fact, several experts state that one of the biggest challenges Biden has faced so far is related to irregular migration levels, that is, the high border apprehension rates reported during the last months.
Therefore, in order to move forward with its comprehensive immigration reform and restructure the local immigration system, the Biden administration is using all possible resources to stem the surge of illegal border crossings and reduce the social and political controversy surrounding irregular migration.
Clearly, the US is not the only country affected by the border situation, Mexico is also included in the international cooperation strategies to reduce border encounter numbers.
In fact, Mexico is quite involved in this conflict because most undocumented migrants coming from Central America must pass through Mexico to reach the US’ borders.
Seeking reliable expert assistance when starting any kind of immigration process is undoubtedly the most appropriate decision to protect your future in the US. Do not hesitate to Contact Motion Law Immigration and ask for your FREE Consultation with our experienced attorneys.
Mexican President proposes projects to curb irregular migration
The Mexican government has been involved in discussions and meetings with several Biden administration officials to address the issue of irregular migration and create courses of action to generate lasting and effective solutions.
On Thursday, September 2, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, also known as AMLO, stated that he will send a letter to President Joe Biden to request financial support from the US and be able to invest in two projects:
- An employment project for young immigrants, which would reduce irregular migration rates.
- A tree planting program in the Central American territory, which would increase the possibility of employment for the local population and thus reduce massive irregular migration to North America.
AMLO has been promoting these two projects for a while now, but his plan has not been successful due to lack of funds. Therefore, the Mexican government hopes that the Biden administration will support and invest in these programs, which would create around 330,000 jobs in a six-month period in countries of the Northern Triangle of Central America; Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.
Adding to that, it is important to mention that this is not the first time the Mexican president has requested monetary assistance from the US to effectively address irregular migration. In late August, AMLO also stated that economic investment is needed to improve conditions for Central American citizens in order to curb mass migration.
