New DACA Applications Must Be Received – Court Orders
Recent conflicts DACA has faced
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a program offered to immigrants in the US that was established in 2012 by President Barack Obama.
This benefit protects immigrants, who came to the US without legal documentation when they were minors, from possible deportation.
DACA allows them to obtain a two-year legal permit, with the possibility of extension. With this permit, they can apply for legal jobs, as well as a driver’s license, a Social Security Number (SSN), inter alia.
It is well known that this program has been on a tightrope on several occasions over the past two years. This is mainly because the current administration of the US, headed by President Donald Trump, does not agree with this program.
The president assures that the best lesson for immigrants who cross the country’s borders without legal documentation is to deny them the opportunity to apply for legal residence permits, work permits or citizenship.

DACA won the battle
After a seemingly endless fight between immigrant rights advocates, nonprofit organizations, expert attorneys, critics, and the Trump administration, the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of DACA.
The current problem is that despite the fact that the Supreme Court gave its verdict on this program, its orders are not being fully carried out.
In fact, in one of our most recent articles, we mention that on the official website of the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), there is no possibility to submit NEW applications for DACA.
This has generated a lot of controversy in the country and the case went back to another court. This time, it was a federal judge who stated that the verdict of the Supreme Court of Justice must be fully followed.

The Trump administration is required to receive new applications for DACA
On July 17, 2020, a federal judge for the District of Maryland ordered the Trump government to receive new DACA applications.
Thousands of young people meet the requirements to be protected by this program and after the Supreme Court order, the government should be following that verdict.
However, since it has not been fully followed, a local judge intervened to protect DACA again.
Opportunities open for immigrants
Over the past few weeks, despite current strict immigration policies, we have seen very positive changes and new opportunities offered to immigrant communities residing in the US.
Other than that, international services are already gradually returning to normal, and foreigners, who want to apply for legal entry or residence in the US, can start organizing documentation to present a solid case.
In fact, due to recent changes in immigration policy, the best alternative is to seek experts’ guidance. In this way, you avoid unnecessary mistakes and find relief in the midst of the current health crisis.
