North America Land Border Closure Extended Again
Border strategy to handle the health crisis
The world is going through a crisis unprecedented in recent history. The Coronavirus pandemic reached every corner, population and community and has unleashed a gigantic crisis, affecting the global economic and health system.
Currently, the US continues to be the epicenter of the global pandemic and the Trump administration had to act quickly to protect the health of the local population and prevent the massive spread of the virus, although, because it is highly contagious through human contact, its spread is almost unstoppable and inevitable.
Therefore, after more than nine months in the battle against the COVID-19, governments around the world continue to implement emergency measures to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
In the case of North America, one of the strategies to avoid the import and export of the virus was to close the land borders to any non-essential travel. It means that since the massive Coronavirus outbreak, travel across land borders must involve trade of any kind. This agreement is between Canada, the US and Mexico.

North America extends border closure until the end of the year
On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, officials from the US, Mexico, and Canada proposed extending the closure of land borders to all non-essential travel for at least another month, until December 21, due to the rising number of people infected with COVID-19 in the North American territory.
This restriction has been in force since March, 2020, and land borders only work for trade exchange between these three countries during the sanitary emergency.
Adding to that, regulations for immigrants arriving at land borders, primarily in the US, have also increased considerably during the Coronavirus health crisis, leaving hundreds of asylum seekers in limbo.
