Immigration group asks for help from the Biden administration

One of the reasons why the American population chose Joe Biden as the next president of the US is because of immigration policies implemented by the Trump administration.

Therefore, after the election results came to light, dozens of immigration groups and organizations raised their voices, calling on the Biden administration to pay attention to the humanitarian crisis at the borders of the US and Mexico, immigrant communities currently residing in the country, asylum seekers and the separation of immigrant families.

For instance, the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) called on the president-elect to revoke Trump’s immigration policies. The immigration group assures that this is a humanitarian priority and that Biden should take care of this matter during his first days after taking office.

The NYIC states that immigrant communities and people of colour have contributed greatly to the socioeconomic development and progress of the US and, therefore, should be protected by the federal government.

The group’s representatives state: “Now, as we get ready to swear in a Democratic administration, we remind Vice President Biden and Senator Harris of their promises: to rescind the Muslim Ban, reinstate and expand DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and TPS (Temporary Protected Status) programmes, as just a starting point to rebuilding our immigration system from the ground up.”
