Politician Criticizes the President-Elect’s Immigration Policies
The American population chose the Democratic nominee
On November 3, 2020, American citizens were to elect the next president of the nation. The two strongest candidates were:
- Current president Donald Trump, belonging to the Republican political party.
- Former Vice President Joe Biden, belonging to the Democratic political party.
The vote count revealed that the local population elected the Democratic nominee as the 46th president of the US, who will take office on January 20, 2021.
This is quite a big change for the country, not only because the candidates belong to different political parties, but because they certainly have a diametrically opposite stance when it comes to multiple sectors of society, such as immigration.

The President-Elect’s stance on immigration
Unlike Trump, Biden states that immigration is truly beneficial to the US. The president-elect assures that foreign workforce is essential for local economic growth and that immigrants contribute greatly to the country’s socioeconomic development.
Adding to that, the Biden administration plans to increase humanitarian benefits for vulnerable immigrant communities, as well as offer legal residency to more than 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the US.
Therefore, to fulfill these purposes, Biden must first remove or revoke Trump’s immigration policies, since his administration has substantially restricted immigration and opportunities for both vulnerable immigrant communities and highly qualified foreign workers.
Clearly, a part of the population, including politicians and government officials, does not agree with Biden’s immigration policies, arguing that they could harm the local economic system in the long term.

Republican politician comments on Biden’s immigration proposals
On Tuesday, December 1, 2020, Republican politician Nikki Haley, known for being the US Ambassador to the United Nations from January 2017 to October 2018, severely criticized some of the Biden administration’s immigration proposals.
Haley states that offering legal residency or a path to citizenship to undocumented immigrants would tremendously affect American workers and incentivize illegal immigration, which could be detrimental to the local economic system.
She states that Biden must rethink this proposal before worsening the humanitarian crisis at the borders since, in her opinion, Biden’s immigration policies will draw the attention of entire immigrant communities, who will attempt to cross the borders without prior authorization, violating the law and hoping to obtain legal residence after entering the country.
In fact, she posted the following comment on Twitter: “Biden’s immigration policies will create another border crisis that will undermine the rule of law, hurt American workers, and insult the legal immigrants who did the right thing. It’s one more reason why America needs a conservative-led Senate to stop Biden’s plan in its tracks.”
