Mexico tries to control irregular immigration in its territory

Since irregular immigration also affects territories other than the US, Mexican authorities are trying to intervene through raids and have detained around 1,200 undocumented migrants, who come from other Central American countries and hope to reach North America. This is the figure reported between January 25 and February 16, 2021.

It is important to clarify that Mexico has been positive and has offered support to the Biden administration to address illegal immigration from its root causes, which, according to the current president of the US, are related to the lack of job opportunities, economic stability and public benefits. Adding to that, there are other factors that force thousands of people to migrate to the US such as violence, civil war, famine and extreme poverty.

Biden’s actions to mitigate the impact of irregular immigration

The Biden administration’s immigration plan and its intention to reform the immigration system are currently in jeopardy due to the surge of illegal border crossings, which sparks a gigantic controversy and contributes to opposition groups enacting their anti-immigration message and growing fear, mistrust, doubt, uncertainty and skepticism among the American population regarding Biden’s immigration policies.

Therefore, the current administration of the US is trying to control the situation at the borders to prevent an immigration and humanitarian crisis. However, several critics, members of Congress and opposition groups state that there is already a crisis at the borders and that the Biden administration has not accepted the “repercussions of its policies.”
