Several Leaders Support Protection for Documented Dreamers
Documented Dreamers are also in limbo
It is common to hear discussions or debates about Dreamers, who are young immigrants who came to the US without legal documentation when they were minors. Usually, there is a gigantic social controversy about what the local government should do for them and their future in North America.
However, sometimes overlooked is an immigrant community that has also been essential to the nation’s socioeconomic development and multicultural integration, Documented Dreamers. This term refers to young immigrants who have resided legally in the US under the sponsorship of their parents’ visas, in many cases for several years, but who are left in limbo when they turn 21.
They can access other visa programs or apply for lawful permanent residency as long as they meet certain eligibility requirements. However, due to the alarming backlog of immigration cases nationwide, waiting times can become quite long and after turning 21, Documented Dreamers could be exposed to deportation despite having lived in the US for a considerable period of time.
