Several Voices Unite for Immigration Reform
Immigration reform could be just around the corner
Biden’s 2022 budget package, which is being introduced through the reconciliation process, includes an immigration resolution that could lead to comprehensive reform as it proposes to open a path to legal residency for essential foreign workers living in the US undocumented, provided they meet certain eligibility requirements.
Under Biden’s proposal, his administration would have approximately $107 billion available to improve the local immigration system, including a path to citizenship for certain DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients, TPS (Temporary Protected Status) beneficiaries, foreign farmworkers, inter alia.
This immigration reform could drastically transform the country’s approach to immigration in general and, according to expert opinion, would have a positive impact on national economic behavior.
It is important to explain that Biden’s budget package has already been approved by the US House of Representatives and, according to sources close to the process, the Senate Parliamentarian will hear arguments today about including an immigration resolution in a budget bill.
On top of that, the Senate returns from mid-year recess next week and one of its first tasks is to review Biden’s 2022 budget package. As a result, immigration reform might be very close.

- The heads of five major Florida universities recently stated that it is important for the nation to protect undocumented international students, who become, more often than not, essential workers in all kinds of sectors.
- Recently, a group of more than 50 economists wrote a letter, calling on Congress to open a path to citizenship for undocumented foreign workers, who consistently drive the nation’s economy.
