The US and Mexico Discuss About Irregular Immigration
Biden dispatched National Security Council officials to Mexico
The rise in illegal border crossings is drawing the attention of the American public and sparking controversy over President Joe Biden’s immigration proposals. This is mainly because the number of apprehensions of undocumented immigrants increased substantially after Biden took office in late January 2021.
However, it is important to note that there are also many reasons why there is a surge of immigrants at the borders other than the Biden administration’s immigration policies, such as the global Coronavirus pandemic, the relaxation of border restrictions in the Central American territory, the economic crisis, lack of employment and extreme weather conditions.
Regardless of what is causing the increase in illegal border crossings, the Biden administration still has a duty to deal with the situation and address irregular immigration effectively and efficiently.
In fact, in order to handle the border situation in a more humane and less arbitrary way, Biden dispatched several National Security Council officials to Mexico on Monday, March 22. They have attended several meetings with senior Mexican government officials to discuss irregular immigration and create strategies to increase surveillance and protection at the borders.

Senior White House officials discuss with Mexico about immigration
On Tuesday, March 23, during a series of meetings, senior White House officials discussed with Mexico Foreign Affairs Secretary about viable alternatives to address irregular immigration from Central America to the US and possible action plans to curb immigration at its root causes.
According to an official statement, the governments of the US and Mexico committed to creating regional strategies and international alliances to improve the situation in Central America. Mexico Foreign Affairs Secretary declares that most undocumented migrants from neighboring countries are forced to seek new opportunities in North America due to lack of employment, violence, civil war, social insecurity and lack of financial stability.
In fact, he states that the US and Mexico have an obligation to promote “humanitarian actions to spur, in the short term, an inclusive economic development in northern Central America (…) we can achieve that these countries and southern Mexico have a different future, have other possibilities (…) That no one has to migrate due to poverty, insecurity, desperation.”
Adding to that, it is worth mentioning that these two countries have recently created strong alliances to help each other and curb irregular immigration. On the one hand, the Biden administration promised to send 2.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Mexico and, on the other hand, the Mexican government is already increasing surveillance at the southern borders to reduce massive illegal immigration to North America.
