The strong insistence of Trump’s government to build the border wall

One of the most striking aspects of President Trump’s campaign has been his unshakable ideal of building a border wall between the US and Mexico to prevent illegal immigration from Central America.

During the last presidential elections, Donald Trump stated that he planned to finish building the entire wall during his presidency.

Nowadays, we are approaching the presidential elections that will take place in November, 2020, and the promise to build the wall has not yet been fulfilled.

The impediments to the construction of the wall

Over the past few years, the Trump administration has faced several criticisms for trying to divert funds earmarked for social protection, pensions, or border forces for the construction of the wall between Mexico and the US.

This means that a large part of the taxes paid by citizens annually are directed to the construction of the wall that separates these two countries.

In addition to that, the Trump project has had to stop construction due to protests by environmentalists and activists who claim that:

• Illegal immigration is increased due to strict regulations implemented by the current administration of the US.
• The wall affects wildlife in the deserts, seas and jungles of the borders.
• Thousands of animals have been found lifeless due to the invasion of their territory.
• Immigrants deserve an opportunity to file their residency applications in the US without being deprived of entering the country.

Despite criticism, President Trump continues to intend to finish the wall before the upcoming elections.

The president continues to build the wall despite the risk of the pandemic

The situation has recently become very alarming as the current administration of the US has taken advantage of the pandemic to continue construction of the border wall.

It is well known that many of the territories where the wall should be built are private property of citizens residing there, and for the government to build in those territories, it must either obtain permission or purchase private property and make it federal property.

According to the legal director at Racial and Economic Justice Program for Texas Civil Rights Project, the Trump administration has attempted to acquire 24 private properties in Texas since March 2020.

This number is greater than the number of private properties the government attempted to acquire in the past eight months.

That’s a giant concern for communities of activists and immigrant rights advocates who claim that the current US administration is using the health crisis to meet its immigration agenda.
