Trump’s Government Wants to Set Guidelines to Resume Face-to-Face Classes

Trump does not agree with CDC's measures to resumen face-to-face classes

The government pressures schools and universities to resume face-to-face classes

The arrival of the pandemic and its massive outbreak caught governments around the world by surprise. The spread of the Coronavirus has been extremely fast and governments had to act quickly to implement emergency measures and protect the health of the local population.

Therefore, most countries decided to:

  • Close borders temporarily.
  • Use quarantine as a measure of prevention and social distancing.

Because the COVID-19 is highly contagious through human contact, social distancing and isolation are the main recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO).

As a result, almost all aspects of our daily lives suddenly changed, and the most important sectors of our society are slowly re-emerging after more than two months.

However, due to the economic crisis caused by the global pandemic, some governments are devising strategies to boost the local economy and gradually reopen most sectors of society.

That is the case of the education sector in the US. President Trump is encouraging the country’s schools and universities to resume, at least partially, face-to-face classes.

Educational institutions must resume face-to-face classes during the fall

If educational institutions do not follow this presidential order, some penalties may apply. For instance, universities that only have virtual classes during the fall will not be able to receive foreign students, who are a primary source of annual income.

The repercussion for international students may be deportation, since if they do not attend a portion of face-to-face classes during the fall, they must leave the US even if they are holders of a legal student visa.

The government wants to decide how face-to-face classes will resume

The main reason why schools and universities in the US are proposing to use virtual pedagogical methodology for the rest of the year is precisely to protect the health of students and teachers.

The US is still the main epicenter of the global pandemic, and the number of people infected with Coronavirus grows exponentially, which could trigger a massive outbreak inside the country’s educational institutions.

However, in the event that the universities decide to resume a portion of face-to-face classes to protect the visas of international students, they must follow strict guidelines and hygiene protocols to avoid the spread of the virus within their facilities.

The current problem is that President Trump does not agree with the protocols proposed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and classified them as “very tough and expensive”, according to an official NBC report.

Therefore, the current administration of the US plans to create an action plan during the course of the week to propose its own guidelines on how to safely reopen educational institutions and protect the health of both teachers and students (local and international).
