USCIS prepares to reopen its offices
Contagion curve decreases in the US
After a long wait, we finally see some progress in the global health crisis caused by the Coronavirus.
The US is one of the main epicenters of the virus in the world and that generated many changes in the most important areas of our society, for example, immigration.
Due to the high contagion rate and the massive spread of COVID-19 in North American territories, the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) was forced to temporarily suspend their face-to-face services and postpone hearings until further notice.
USCIS closed its offices for the first time on March 18, 2020, and the office reopening date has changed three times in a month and a half.
However, USCIS officially announced that the reopening for face-to-face services will be on June 4, 2020. If you are interested about the official statement, please click here.
This date could change if the contagion peak increases again over the next few weeks, but apparently that is the official date since USCIS employees argue that they cannot further delay immigration services.
In addition to that, there are millions of families waiting for an answer to their immigration requests and many of them still do not have a legal work permit, so they are going through an economic crisis and need support from USCIS as soon as possible.
What happened to face-to-face services during the pandemic?
USCIS is currently offering face-to-face services only for emergencies. If you believe you have an emergency case, you can contact an experienced immigration attorney and call USCIS to verify if your situation falls within the emergency standards.
Face-to-face appointments, hearings, and naturalization ceremonies that were scheduled between March 18 and June 4, 2020 were automatically rescheduled by the USCIS system.
All applicants should receive a notification by mail or email letting them know the new date assigned for their immigration process.
What services does USCIS currently offer?
Basically, USCIS continues to offer most of its services virtually.
You can submit your documentation using the USCIS platform. If you need help submitting your application and organizing your documentation/evidence appropriately, you can call Motion Law today and schedule your FREE Phone Consultation.
The only services that are not currently available are:
- Face-to-face appointments.
- Naturalization ceremonies.
- Hearings.
- Biometric data.
- Green Card requests.
- Asylum requests.
- Refuge requests.
These services will resume their normal course after June 2020.
Prepare your documentation correctly
The news of USCIS reopening its offices is hopeful for the community of foreigners who wish to apply for residence permits in the country.
This is the right opportunity to take advantage of your time and organize your immigration case documentation appropriately.
After this health emergency, USCIS services are going to be in high demand and exposing yourself to rejection should not be an option as it can take months to get a chance for a face-to-face appointment again.
That is why the most recommended solution is to find an expert immigration attorney to avoid possible rejection of your application.
It is better to inform yourself correctly from an expert than to put your immigration case at risk.
If you have any questions about an immigration issue or relating to a case you may have currently in progress, then please don’t hesitate to contact us for a FREE Phone Consultation with one of our expert immigration attorneys.
