Biden’s USCIS extends validity of medical exam and vaccination record

On August 12, the USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) announced that it will temporarily extend the validity of Form I-693, which allows this immigration agency to evaluate the applicant’s medical examination and vaccination record, primarily for foreigners who are applying for adjustment of status to become LPRs (Lawful Permanent Residents) through a Green Card.

Usually, along with the Green Card request, applicants must submit Form I-693 to demonstrate that they do not suffer from certain health problems and that they are admissible to the US on grounds of good health. The validity of this form is regularly 2 years. However, due to the alarming backlog of immigration cases, the USCIS announced that it will temporarily extend the validity of this form to 4 years. The USCIS explains that this extension will be in effect until September 30, 2021.

According to the Policy Alert, “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related processing delays, USCIS has experienced delays in all aspects of operations. Applicants have also experienced difficulties beyond their control, including delays with completing the immigration medical examination. To address these issues, USCIS is temporarily extending the validity period of an otherwise valid Form I-693.”
