USCIS to Celebrate Independence Day with Naturalization Ceremonies
USCIS to host naturalization ceremonies to commemorate independence
In 1776, the US finally and officially separated from the 13 Colonies of Great Britain, known as the British Empire. Since then, the country annually celebrates Independence Day on July 4. It is important to clarify that the Continental Congress did not pass the independence resolution on July 4, but this was the date on which it was publicly announced.
This year, as part of the nation’s 245th anniversary celebration, the USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) announced that it will host 170 naturalization ceremonies across the country between June 30 and July 7.
This Independence Day commemoration will welcome 9,400 new American citizens who meet the eligibility requirements and have become an active part of the US’ social and cultural fabric.
It is worth mentioning that the naturalization ceremony is the last step immigrants must take to become American citizens. Completing this step is the dream of millions of people who come to the country annually, who yearn to build a promising future in North America and who are also an essential part of the national economy.
