The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a program offered to undocumented immigrants residing in the US.

The Supreme Court protects DACA
In an attempt to remove DACA from programs offered to immigrants in the US, the case reached the Supreme Court of Justice, which ruled in favor of the program and rejected President Trump’s request to remove it.
Therefore, the DACA benefit is still active for almost 700,000 young people currently protected by this program.
However, the current controversy is that despite the official order of the Supreme Court, the government is currently not accepting new applications for DACA.

The USCIS is not receiving new DACA applications
The section focused on the DACA program, on the official website of the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), states that it is currently allowed to apply for DACA renewal (every two years). This is only for immigrants who already have this benefit.
However, the USCIS is currently not receiving applications from immigrants who have never had this benefit before. In other words, there is no availability for new DACA requests.
Even though it has been almost a month since the Supreme Court gave its final verdict regarding DACA, the USCIS has not fully followed the official order.

The Trump administration mentions DACA in possible immigration reform
Recently, President Trump granted an interview to Telemundo where he stated that he plans to present a proposal for a new immigration reform in the US.
The president assured that the DACA recipients are also included in this plan and that he is going to propose a “road to citizenship” for thousands of young people covered by this program.
The idea of the Trump government is to present this immigration proposal in the course of the following 4 weeks, however, the president did not give many details about it.
With the presidential election getting closer and closer, a reform on immigration policies could be a mainstay of President Trump’s campaign for re-election.
